Euro Top Tech Jobs - Week 42
We finally have the best personal finance resource for devs in Europe.

Euro Tech Money just got WAY COOLER 🔥 🔥 🫨
Updates:
Toggle to filter out countries with less than 15 submissions
Cost of Living per person unit 🔥 (this is a fire metric, my theory is that it'll become more useful for devs than the CoL numbers on numbeo)
CoL-adjusted Yearly Savings
CoL-adjusted After-Tax
This is very cool, and it clearly shows how Central Europe completely blows Western Europe away, when considering how far devs' money in the region goes (both net income and savings).
Basically, it captures:
Purchasing power (CoL-adjusted After-Tax TC)
Local wealth buildup (CoL-adjusted Yearly Savings)
The easiest way to explain why Local wealth buildup matters, is this example:
Reaching a $300k net worth in Switzerland means nothing if you want to stay in Switzerland (you can't do anything significant with that sum)
Reaching it in Hungary or Romania means that you can basically retire
"but you can reach $300k in Switzerland and then move to Hungary/Romania, so only absolute savings matter"
Not really.
Partially yes. But also, if you spend years in a location, you develop relationships/knowledge there. And it's not easy to leave after 10+ years (maybe even with kids).
Check out the site yourself (it's free).
But here's some results:
👍 Top 5 countries by CoL-adjusted After-Tax TC:
Romania
Poland
Hungary
Denmark
Spain
👎 Bottom 5 countries by CoL-adjusted After-Tax TC:
France
Portugal
Austria
Switzerland
Italy
👍 Top 5 countries by CoL-adjusted Yearly Savings:
Romania
Poland
Denmark
Hungary
Spain
👎 Bottom 5 countries by CoL-adjusted Yearly Savings:
Portugal
France
Italy
Switzerland
Sweden
Couple of thoughts (will go more in-depth in the future):
1. Denmark seems like a good country despite the high taxes
Maybe their public services are very good and people are able to have contained spending because of that?
Worth mentioning that, despite having enough submissions, some of them lack data, so it could go down as new data comes in.
2. Switzerland purchasing power and local wealth for devs is much less than people think!
The only rich devs in Switzerland are the very frugal ones and senior/staff+ engineers in big tech.
Let me know what you think!!
As always, let me know if you have any feedback and/or feature request!
