Just few word about Ukraine. Starting from 1.01.2025 1% of war tax is added. So we will have 6% flat tax. But there is the cap. Cap is counted in the national currency, linked to minimal wage, and depends on the exchange rate. So currently it is 1167*8000/42=$222k.
And donβt get into the trap with free healthcare.
Well, it depends, but it's not much. Health insurance works, but you should be careful with the package you buy. Let's say $100/month will include everything except dentistry, heart-related diseases, and sugar diabetes-related.
It's relatively easy to get $70k / year for seniors with 5-7 YOE, but almost impossible to cross $100k since 90% is just outstaffing for US/EU companies
But I think some companies from eurotoptechjobs.com hire from Ukraine too, no? For examples RevenueCat hires worldwide remote devs and pays 100k+ no matter where you are.
Bulgaria is amazing for devs. There is a big community and a lot of amazing engineers. Tax is 10% here tho not 9%. Also after pensions, the best health insurance, your total deduction from your gross salary is ~ 18.8%
Meaning, out of a 100k USD/BGN/EUR gross salary, you will get 81K Net salary with health insurance and excluding benefits/bonuses, which aren't taxed.
I think you can even get a total of less 10% working as a freelancer deducing costs etc. itβs a good spot for sure! I guess Varna is nice but I think in winter it gets too cold/humid?
absolutely you can, yes. I am working as SE at Tide, so our taxes are as described above. That said, if you are freelancing / B2B Contractor you can exclude all the health insurance/pension stuff out and you end up with 10% salary tax. (or less - not too familiar)
Varna is great and it's not that cold in winter, compared to all other places like Sofia in Bulgaria. Compared to Spain or similar countries, it's coold hah

It is, but only on paper.
I guess most freelance devs making six figures in Ukraine would go for private healthcare. Do you know how much a quality health insurance would cost?
