Hi Nicola

Just sharing my view on you comment on Zurich while living in Zug. While it's a good suggestion i think it only makes sense for people with higher salaries for sure over 200k CHF.

The lower taxes you pay in zug are mostly offset by the higher cost of renting, so while you actually save in taxes you need to pay much more in housing expenses to have a house in zug with a similar level of comfort and quality that you can have in other places.

Also housing in low tax locations like Zug near ZH is extremely hard to find, only a few listings go to the actual market.

There are maybe better regions to look in terms of tax/housing cost ratio than zug but ultimately all depends on your income

Hope it helps

Hi, thanks for sharing.

I don't think housing in zug is much more expensive than zurich.

But fewer flats -> yes

Also, more boring for sure.

In terms of other good low-tax location in Swiss, Zug is the best in terms of having low taxes and being near Zurich. Schwyz is also ok but more far.

Kilchberg tax-wise is inbetween zug and zurich, while being close to Zurich and maybe less boring to live in than Zug.

Ciao Nicola

Sorry i was not clear enough :)

I wasn't referring to the city center vs city center comparison (where prices are relatively comparable - you are right there) but mostly on kanton average comparison.

I am supporting my comments on the interesting data you can see for example in Homegate with price averages going to gemeinde level

https://www.homegate.ch/en/property-prices-m2/canton-zug

https://www.homegate.ch/en/property-prices-m2/canton-zurich

https://www.homegate.ch/en/property-prices-m2/canton-schwyz

I did some calculations for my case and for me it wouldn't be worthwhile to live in zug kanton and benefit from lower taxes as this extra gain would be mostly eaten by the property price. I could indeed save some money by moving there but I would need to take a penalty on the housing quality/size.

Anyway i have kids and need a bigger house and this can make my use case different from a single person or couple without kids.

Taking the boring factor in consideration :) then being near ZH city makes total difference as cultural offer and entertainment are just better there.

The other places you mention are very good suggestions as well.

I think the point i wanted to make is that there is a direct correlation between housing prices and the tax level of the kanton/gemeinde and the housing factor needs to be taken into consideration for each personal case as well, Zug will definitely make sense from a purely financial perspective if your salary is on the higher end of the spectrum and the tax gain offsets the property diff or if you earn less but are willing to have worse housing standards :)
