Your opinion matters

First of all, I’d like to explain how I got about choosing how to iterate on the job board and what to implement.

As of now, since I only have 60 paid subscribers, I created a chat with them here on Substack, and I just ask the people there what they’re missing and use this info to create and prioritise the backlog.

Some input I received this week was:

1. We need a column that tells us how old a job is. Which job was added this week? We don’t want to look at thousands of jobs and figure out which ones were added recently.

2. Split the table into multiple Google Sheet windows: separation of job board with saving rate data (using a window to check the jobs, and a separate window to figure out how much jobs in certain locations pay and allow to save).

3. Remove jobUrl column and make job titles clickable to go to the job posting webpage on LinkedIn.

4. Improve filtering capabilities. TBD

Here’s what I did:

Job Board Updates

1. Split the data into multiple windows:

   1. Job Board Window: simple window, easy to navigate, easy to filter and sort for job ‘freshness’ (when was this job added to the job board).

      

   2. Saving Rate Window: somewhat similar content to what you’ll find in CodeCapitals.com, but I’ll keep it restricted to European location, and I plan to make it much more sophisticated in the coming weeks/months (with more extensive and granular data).

      

   3. Add a third window for Fully-Remote High-Paying Companies: this is a new addition to the job board. I’ll start off slow by just adding a few fully-remote companies per week, with their expected salary range (sometimes publicly advertised in their open positions).

      

   4. For now, I’m also keeping a fourth window for the “old” job board (the one introduced in this article) for people who liked that layout and don’t want to change how they work. I’ll keep updating this job board too every week, at least until someone finds it useful. Note that almost every week I add new companies to the job board, and I’ll keep reflecting these updates in this window too.

      

2. In these new windows, I’ve addressed many of the requests that were asked by the paid subs, including: making the job title clickable and removing jobUrl column, and adding job freshness data. The format in which I express the freshness is like this: 0 WEEKS OLD (NEW), 1 WEEK OLD, 2 WEEKS OLD, 3 WEEKS OLD. I don’t quite remember, but I think anything older than 4 weeks is classified as 3 weeks old. This format IMO is good because you can sort the column and get the jobs in order of freshness (most recent to last recent and vise versa). You can also just filter for one specific value (i.e. if you want only the jobs that are 2 weeks old, etc).

Note: some of the rates in the ‘upper range’ are still missing, that’s why you see $165k as the max for all lifestyle options. In reality some staff+ positions will have higher saving rates. I promise to address this very soon!

Total number of listings:

Went up by 353, from 4234 to 4587, mostly driven by Microsoft new job postings everywhere in Europe.

Worth noting that a lot of these Microsoft jobs are country-remote (meaning that you’ll still be limited to a specific country and be hired as full-time employee, so not quite the same as being a high-payed freelancer working from LCLT, but still… better than onsite I guess :)).

Many new openings for junior folks. So, if you’re early in your career, it might now be the time to send a few applications!
