Spending money > making money
Spending money well is a skill that needs time to develop: a 1 month Euro-vacation in summer is not gonna cut it 🙊
I would even argue that "spending money" is often just a bad proxy for what people actually mean by that, which is "living a good life".
Let me do some Europesplaining: 😂
You don't really need a lot of money to lead a great life
That's why you don't really need to make a lot of money in the first place
Maybe you don't need the US?
I much rather prefer Ankur Nagpal characterisation of the US being the best place to build.
Because I think that's true: it is undeniably a great place to build - which can be a very enjoyable and satisfying endeavour.
Even though... With all the tools we have nowadays, unless you really want to build the next Google, I think you might just be fine in Europe?
Companies like Lovable seem to be doing just fine after all.
PS: I also think the way Scott Galloway is describing the US in the above video, is nowadays better fit to describing the UAE? 🤔
The ultimate career hack?
👉 A US tech job working remotely from Europe.
The US has the highest tech salaries in the world.
Europe has the best lifestyle in the world.
Combine the two, and you're 👌
Almost forgot: you can also get lower taxes as a remote dev in Europe...
Need some high-paying fully-remote job that allows you to be in Europe?
Check out EuroTopTechJobs.com. Plenty of them in there 😉
Is there any reason left to be in the US as a dev nowadays, if you can get a US salary from Europe?
Let me know what you think, I'm curious 😁
BTW, you don’t even need a remote job
You can also just work for an American company’s office in Europe.
They still pay very well compared to the local market and cost of living.
The goal in this case will be -> Getting a big tech job in Europe
Gentle reminder: EuroTopTechJobs.com offers the easiest way to monitor and track these jobs (in addition to collecting an ever increasing list - currently 85 - of fully-remote companies paying 6 figures).
Poland is the nr.1 country right now for high-paying tech companies
Yes, Warsaw is only the 3rd city by number of openings on EuroTopTechJobs.com
But the rate at which is expanding, the competition for landing such roles (easier than landing a big tech role in Western Europe), and the taxes/cost-of-living, easily make it outshine the top 2 cities (London and Dublin).
Also, Cracow is another big hub (8th in Europe at the moment).
Where is Google hiring engineers in 2025?
🇺🇸 1000 open SWE jobs in the US
🇮🇳 350 open SWE jobs in India
🇵🇱 125 open SWE jobs in Poland
🇨🇭 20 open SWE jobs in Switzerland
🇩🇪 20 open SWE jobs in Germany
🇬🇧 15 open SWE jobs in the UK
Poland has twice the openings of Switzerland, Germany and the UK - the largest Google's engineering offices in Europe - COMBINED.
It also has about 50% the positions of India despite being just 2.5% of its population 😨
(for all the people who say that "tech jobs are moving from Eastern Europe to Asia" 😄)
The US stays strong a hiring hub, because:
Google is an American company after all
Easy to fire people
Access to lot of qualified talent
400k+ desperate devs laid off in the last 2 years
H1B workers
Whenever you're ready, there are 2 ways I can help you:
Euro Top Tech Jobs: 4000+ top paying tech jobs in Europe in addition to 80+ fully-remote companies paying $100-600k per year and private guides like this one.
Coaching Program: Check it out if you want to work 1:1 with me to boost your career as a dev in Europe or remotely.
I totally agree. Living in Europe (esp. in a country with low income taxes) and working for good U.S. companies that pay above average for that country is a great trade off!
A little warning though: Working across timezones can be brutal, especially if most people that you need to interact with are on the west coast (9h time difference vs. CET!). Just something to keep in mind and discuss when you interview for the U.S. company.
